Programme Synopsis Brief & Bold 10-Minute Playwriting Showcase is an interactive workshop where students collaborate to write, direct, and perform original short plays. Through a guided, step-by-step process, they master key storytelling and performance skills - developing character, shaping conflict, crafting purposeful dialogue, and staging scenes with clarity and confidence. Each student/team creates a complete 10-minute play for an in-class showcase, with the option of extending the experience into a school play festival or friendly competition. Background: In 2008, Word Forward (WF) launched the international Fast and Fresh Play Competition for young people in Singapore. The annual inter school festival’s resounding success inspired WF to rebrand it as the Brief & Bold Competition for enrichment learning. Brief & Bold develops students as writers, directors, actors, prop and costume designers by producing their own 10-minute plays. Participants learn through both writing and drama-based activities in a collaborative workshop environment. Goal Through a step-by-step process, students understand effective communication through character and plot development, framing dialogue, actor empowerment, and shaping a complete theatrical experience within the context of this programme. Overall, students build their confidence as writers, actors, directors and producers, skills that translate as valuable life skills. They also practise the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
