Programme Synopsis Art Excursion, Hike it! @Sigapore River started more than a decade ago, with thousands of students taking a noteworthy stroll with Artbeatz from the past to present worlds, transcending time zone. Adding a touch on appreciation of sculptures, as an art genre to record people, events, and history along the Singapore river, learning about the way of life and how the Singapore story started at the Singapore river. The Singapore River is synonymous with The Singapore Story, as this is where Singapore’s story began. It is still significant in today’s economic world, considering where the financial center is situated. For all the good reasons, many monuments and sculptures are strategically placed along the Singapore River to tell the Singapore Story for many generations to come as well as visitors from overseas. Hike it! @Singapore River has been scheduled as annual visits for several schools with Art excursions coupled with National Education. Artbeatz is adopting the story-telling approach with enquiry-based learning mechanics: We invite students with directional open questions like: Why do you think people in Sarawak use wood to create the totem poles? If we move this sculpture to your school, does it have any more meaning of its existence at its current location? Along with ArtBeatz’s intention of reiterating the significance of site-specific art installation. We have included an exposure with sharing of the architectural styles in the light of arts appreciation, plus knowledge acquiring processes. Since its locality is vital amidst the Victoria/Palladian styled buildings and the modern buildings around. Most importantly, students will learn about the arts making processes as well as the ideas behind the arts-making. We always highlight the learning dynamics with hands-on art making for students to reflect and integrate the learning nuances, by making arts in response, hence, acquiring skills along the way. Typically, Artbeatz facilitators would walk students in groups of 20s with loop robin format to cover the prescribed trails, in 2 hours inclusive of hands-on art making session. However, for schools to choose an add-on of Amazing Race new edition, we could share the 6 videos made for zoom sessions about sculptures at The Singapore River, prior to visit at the Singapore River. Students would acquire the knowledge in advance by watching the videos and answering the question in the booklets/kahoot. Thereafter, we could organize the Art excursion in the amazing race mode while students will work in groups of 5 to 8 to uncover the clues based on acquired knowledge and enjoy active learning with application of knowledge. These activities would add fun to art excursion plus team-building zings to materialize the articulation of ideas. Adding on high touch with iPads would excite the youths to explore more, with challenging questions to answer along the way, at the Amazing Race by the Singapore River.
