Programme Synopsis

NEW! DIGITAL FORMAT AVAILABLE TO SCHOOLS This programme is now adapted to: 1. Allow students to learn through pre-recorded video of the Dragon Kiln and how it lights up, presentation slides of pottery, and pre-recorded video demonstration of throwing on potter’s wheel in the classrooms/during homebased learning and 2. Allow students to learn hand-building through a Live broadcast in the classrooms/during homebased learning or Live demonstration in the classrooms Note: Materials and tools will be delivered to school. Artwork will be collected for firing and sent back to school after firing. A basic workshop which consists 1. Introduction of ceramics, oldest dragon kiln and walk through the kiln. 2. 15 minutes video watching which covers topic of pottery making, firing the dragon kiln and products made of clay. 3. After watch video, instructor will introduce types of equipment use in the studio. ( Eg: slab roller, pug mill, extruder, kick wheel, electrical kiln) 4. Demonstration on the potter wheel by the instructor 5. Participants get a short hands on on the wheel. ( touch and go) 6. Demonstration of hand building techniques by the instructor 7. Participants get to hands on and create an artwork 8. 10 Minutes break for the participants - Ice cream and soft drink store available. 9. Demonstration of glazing by the instructor 10. Participants get to glaze their artwork 11. Cleaning up 12. Free and easy - Participants get to purchase souvenir from the retail area End of workshop Alternatively: Lesson will be conducted in school. 2. The live dragon kiln tour will be change to video of dragon kiln, how it is being light up and presentation slides of pottery. 3. Live demonstration will be changed to video of throwing on potter's wheel 4. Handbuilding session can be taught live (in school or in Thow Kwang studio) or via zoom live. ** Materials and tools will delivered to school, artwork will be collected for firing and send back to school after firing.

The Tote Board Arts Grant was introduced in 1995 to encourage the development of a vibrant arts culture in schools, and to promote arts appreciation amongst students.

Each year, all MOE schools and ITE Colleges may opt-in to receive the Arts Grant. Schools may use the grant to subsidise the purchase of programmes under the NAC-AEP and for the Artist-in-School Scheme (AISS).

All approved programmes are listed on the NAC-AEP Directory and come with a valid Letter of Eligibility.

To purchase this programme, contact the representative listed on the Programme Detail Page and make contractual arrangements directly with the programme provider.

Please ensure that a valid Letter of Eligibility (LOE) is obtained. Note that MOE procurement guidelines apply.

Payment should be made directly to the programme provider. Claims for the Arts Grant should be made via IFAAS and in accordance to Grant Guidelines.

Programme providers are permitted to make changes to the following aspects of an NAC-AEP, according to the school’s needs:

  • Programme duration, including no. of sessions
  • Cost of programme
  • Class size

Under the above conditions, schools can make claims based on revised programme costs using the same Programme ID listed on the Letter of Eligibility (LOE).

The following changes are not permitted when customising programmes:

  • Changes to content
  • Inclusion of non-approved instructor(s)
