Programme Synopsis ComixGuru’s art program leverages the inquiry-based and adaptive learning strategies with differentiated instruction to facilitate critical and inventive thinking to achieve intentional, focused outcomes in each lesson. ComixGuru’s core philosophy is based on these 3 pillars: Go-easy, Go-engage and Go-experience. 1. Go-easy: Keep it fun and super simple to understand 2. Go-engage: Make learning relatable and exciting 3. Go-experience: Explore, discover and create with an outcome in mind We use learning management systems(LMS) to engage students in self-paced learning where possible and empower them with learning resources (eGuides) so that they can take charge of their learning progress to complement the limits of classroom teaching. Students are encouraged to ask questions and embrace the beginner’s mind when executing a technique and be open-minded when solving problems. Rediscover Comics Making is a course designed to impart learners the knowledge of conceptualising one’s idea into a visual story based on our proprietary learning model. Our teaching approach focuses on “the one skill set that makes a difference” when it comes to bridging image and text into sequential art. Our teaching approach is simple to apply, relatable to one’s experience and scalable regardless of one’s learning level. In short, learners shall be able to turn their ideas into pages of comics story fairly quickly once they put the skill into practice. This programme is aligned with MOE’s 21st Century Competencies, bringing the focus to critical, adaptive and inventive thinking, as learners venture into the self-paced learning mode. (This 8-session course is fully digital with pre-recorded videos. Students can pose questions and submit their assignments on the portal. 2 free zoom sessions can be arranged for group coaching when needed.) In this course, they shall acquire the skills that is essential in making a comic story: - Understand the concept of space and time - Panel and the flow of time - The language of comics - Writing the story plot - Keyframes in the storyboard - The relation between the script and the comics character - Panel transition on a page - Designing a page layout - Drafting, pencilling to inking a comic page Learning Outcome: Students shall be able to draw 1-3 pages of the comic story after completion of the course.
