Programme Synopsis This socially engaged art workshop series aims to promote inclusion and diversity through art-making. Co:Created with fiber artist Izziyana Suhaimi and her community partner Rabiatutadawiah, students will be guided through the fun steps from making a latch hook knot to completing their very own latch hooking badge. Izziyana is a fiber artist, working with techniques of hand embroidery and weaving. She is also a mother to a toddler, and dabbles in healthy-ish baking when life threatens to overwhelm. Based in Singapore, she’s been practising since 2008. She achieved her dream of mounting her first solo show before 30 in 2015 and has been imagining great new works ever since. Her fiber artworks explore evidence of the hand and especially of time. She is interested in the evidence of time passing - growth, decay. She views fiber art works as physical manifestations of time - or time objects - as each stitch represents a moment passed. Nur Rabiatudawiah Binte Mohamed Rafi (‘Rabia’) is a childhood cancer survivor and Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) beneficiary. Rabia loves art and is able to work wonders with her hands. She enjoys painting scenes outside her window, like flowers and beautiful sunsets. She hopes to build her confidence in functional art and craft and independence. This project promotes collaboration between Singapore artists with community partners. This project platforms our local artists as agents for social change as the artist reimagines time as a conduit for sharing their creative energies, and through their hands, stewards us to make meaning and connect with ourselves.
