Programme Synopsis Unleash students' creativity in the Caricature Creation by professional artists from Singapore's renowned Cartoon.SG! Caricature is a vibrant art form, essential in animation, illustration, news media, entertainment, gift-giving, and modern game character development. This workshop demystifies the art, making it accessible and fun for everyone. In an era where AI can generate images in seconds, this workshop champions the irreplaceable human touch and creative decision-making that define true caricature. While AI can mimic styles, it's the human artist who brings keen live observation, intentional exaggeration for comedic effect, and the ability to capture the unique spirit and personality of an individual. Our Cartoon.SG instructors, full-time artists with experience at major Singapore attractions and international competitions, will share their "professional secrets" – teaching students to think and see like a caricaturist. Students will learn a systematic approach to analyzing faces, identifying key characteristics, and capturing a likeness through purposeful, humorous exaggeration. We'll explore diverse styles, from energetic cartoon sketches to more defined character studies, all while building foundational drawing confidence. Through guided exercises with famous faces and the unique thrill of live drawing classmates, students will develop crucial observation skills and the ability to translate what they see into expressive, unique caricatures. No prior drawing experience is needed – just a willingness to explore, laugh, and learn! This workshop aims to ignite a passion for drawing by hand, enhance visual literacy, provide insight into a creative industry, and demonstrate the enduring value of human artistry and personal connection in a rapidly changing technological landscape. Students will develop valuable life skills like observation, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving, creating art that truly comes from their own perspective." LEVEL DIFFERENTIATION (Applied across both sessions): Younger Students/Beginners (e.g., Upper Primary): Focus on very obvious features for exaggeration. Encourage simpler, bolder line work. Provide more structured templates or head shapes in workbooks if needed. Live drawing can be focused on just one or two features if a whole face is daunting. Older Students/More Confident (e.g., Secondary): Can be challenged to identify more subtle characteristics for exaggeration. Encouraged to experiment more with line weight and complex shapes. Can aim for more nuanced expressions in their caricatures.
