Programme Synopsis Three classical guitarists come together to present a performance of Asian chamber music. The timbral versatility of the nylon-string guitar has long been established in the Western repertoire of Fernando Sor, Francis Tarrega and Leo Brouwer. However, this performance presents a rare opportunity for students to listen to Asian music performed in such an intimate setting. Principally, the repertoire will span music from Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Japan, India and China. A large segment of the music has been arranged and composed by local doyen Maestro Alex Abisheganaden, who is considered the father of the guitar movement in Singapore. Coupled with informative narrations and friendly dialogue with the students and rhythmic interaction (clapping, finger snapping, etc.), the programme will seamlessly integrate education and music and feature the lesser-known music from Asia performed in a contemporary style. With this new approach, this programme hopes to expose young students to the music and instrumental sounds of Asia and empower them to explore this genre in their own music-making activities in school. With the use of Mentimeter, students with mobile devices can express their thoughts and opinions on Asian music and thereby offer valuable feedback on the audiences' comprehension of the program's content. A Padlet link can be shared with the school teacher to provide a more controlled avenue to receive questions from the students (given the large audience numbers) Program Repertoire: 1st Segment: Music from Brunei Darussalam - Adai Adai Naindong 2nd Segment: Music from Indonesia - Bengawan Solo 3rd Segment: Music from Japan – Sakura Variations 4th Segment: Audience Participation - Students from the secondary schools can use their mobile devices to interact with the performers through Mentimeter /Kahoot!. Questions will be asked on the various techniques demonstrated in the piece Sakura. - For younger audiences in primary schools, questions will be in a Quiz format (shown on slides | Kahoot!-style) and volunteers can come up on stage to answer. 5th Segment: Music from Thailand - Loy Krathong 6th Segment: Finale: Music from Singapore - Singapura Rhythms (arr. Balraj Gopal) (Guitar Ensemble scores of the music performed will be provided FREE upon request. This is to encourage students to perform Asian music in their guitar ensembles.)
