Programme Synopsis ComixGuru’s art program leverages the inquiry-based and adaptive learning strategies with differentiated instruction to facilitate critical and inventive thinking to achieve intentional, focused outcomes in each lesson. ComixGuru’s core philosophy is based on these 3 pillars: Go-easy, Go-engage and Go-experience. 1. Go-easy: Keep it fun and super simple to understand 2. Go-engage: Make learning relatable and exciting 3. Go-experience: Explore, discover and create with an outcome in mind We use learning management systems(LMS) to engage students in self-paced learning where possible and empower them with learning resources (eGuides) so that they can take charge of their learning progress to complement the limits of classroom teaching. Students are encouraged to ask questions and embrace the beginner’s mind when executing a technique and be open-minded when solving problems. Rediscover Cartooning is a course put together to let learners experience the art of creating cartoon characters, comics drawing to drawing a caricature of famous figures in Singapore. Each module consists of 3 sessions (1 hour per session) and the school can choose any of the modules to let their students explore. Our learning model focuses on “the one skill set that makes a difference” when it comes to bridging what one has already known with a new skill set. Our teaching approach is simple to apply, relatable to one’s experience and scalable regardless of one’s learning level. In short, learners shall be able to apply what they have learned and put the skill into practice in a fairly short period. Each of the workshops is 3 hours based (minimum) and completed in a single session or can be expanded into many sessions when required by the school. This programme is aligned with MOE’s 21st Century Competencies, bringing the focus to critical, adaptive and inventive thinking as learners embrace a beginner and creative mind for every task. (Choose either one of the workshops. Go fully digital or blended learning) Cartoon Creation - Understand face shapes, features and facial expression - Drawing the cartoon figure and posture - Adding clothes and accessories to the character Learning Outcome: Students shall be able to draw a cartoon character that is inspired by our Singapore culture. Comics Drawing - Understand the structure of humorous comics or a gag strip - Brainstorming and creating comics character - Drawing a 4-panel comic strip Learning Outcome: Students shall be able to draw at least 1 gag strip (4-panel) that is relatable to Singapore culture at the end of the workshop. Portrait Caricature - Appreciate the art of exaggeration and understand the core focus of a caricatured portrait - Examined faces of famous Sg historical, celebrity or political figures - Draw a caricature of a celebrity Learning Outcome: Students shall analyse and draw a famous celebrity in caricature drawing style.
