Programme Synopsis An engaging school assembly art program giving exposure to the visual arts profession in Singapore with an industry expert introduction to their suite of expertise: Cartoon caricature/ Graffiti/ Batik or Speed Painting. In the cartoon caricature assembly show, the artist will share about his profession as a professional caricaturist with Cartoon.SG; demonstrate drawing techniques and disclose the science behind facial recognition. Students can draw along as a model among them is drawn ‘live’ on stage. Lots of laughs and astonishment can be expected. For the graffiti assembly show, the artist will share about the graffiti art scene around the world and locally. With stories and case studies about the development of this art form inSingapore. He will throw light on the issue of vandalism and social responsibility. This will follow with a spray painting demonstration in which some students will get a hand-on experience through audience participation. The batik assembly show will have the artist talking about material culture of batik and trace the historical and cultural significance of batik to various ethnic groups in Singapore. A colourful slideshow of significant symbols and patterns followed by a ‘live’ waxing and painting demonstration projected on screen. A cultural awakening to realise the wealth in diversity of our multicultural heritage. The speed painting show is about painting efficiently without outline (lost-edge) drawings. This will appeal to the general audience as they see a picture develop from a blank canvas. Whilst during the process, artists will talk through how to look at objects for planes and form, then light values. Seeing a painting take shape is a very inspiring experience. Painting done digitally or traditional medium onto large canvas.
