Programme Synopsis The Converge Experience provides a unique, immersive journey into the world of Dance, allowing students to experience dance via 3 unique stages – Awareness, Acquisition and Application. A1 – Awareness The Converge Experience begins with a sharing by an invited dance practitioner (and approved AEP instructor), covering the history of the selected genre, its evolution over the years, its presence in Singapore and the local arts ecosystem, and its presence and significance in other parts of the world. The learning in A1 will be enhanced via screening of Converge Studios’ past projects and programmes for the selected genre, supported by digital tools. A1 ends with a quiz on the genre. A2 – Acquisition Students will then be brought through a dance class by a Converge faculty member (and approved AEP instructor), where they will pick up techniques and 4 separate dance phrases (each around 1 to 2 eights) of the selected genre. Difficulty level will be adjusted based on dance experience (CCA students with prior background vs class with varying dance experience), while teaching tools (e.g. ratio of instructional guides vs open prompts, usage of analogies) will be adjusted based on age. A3 – Application With the knowledge from A1 and skills from A2, students will then be challenged to work in teams to come up with their own showcase routine. They will learn to flow the movement sequences together (Primary and Secondary Level) and input their own formation changes and layering effects (Secondary Level). A3 ends with an internal showcase from the groups for their peers. The combination of the 3 stages, led by our practitioner and instructor, and managed by an on-site facilitator, creates a hands-on, interactive dance excursion that allows students to be aware of, understand and apply dance knowledge and techniques, all while practicing key competencies such as Social Awareness and Relationship Management when working with their peers. A1 to A3 will be held in different studios/rooms within Converge Studios, each set-up and themed differently to excite students, and to visually represent the advancement from one stage of learning to the next.
