Programme Synopsis This TWO-IN-ONE programme is a unique theatrical and critical discourse experience for students. It will begin with a screening of an adapted 30-minute pre-recorded performance of William Shakespeare's Macbeth which will look at the journey of Macbeth, a respected general, who succumbs to his greed and thirst for power. This will be followed with a 60-minute face to face workshop where students will explore the themes of the narrative and be exposed to drama tools and critical thinking approaches to aid in enquiry and understanding. The workshop will offer students a different way to experience and appreciate Shakespeare that will excite, engage, and inspire. Centering on the themes of Accountability, Ambition, Power, Greed, Friendship, Loyalty and Betrayal, students will explore the moral dilemmas and motivations of the different characters. It will unpack the above themes through a combination of critical thinking approaches as well as use Drama strategies – Improvisation, Role Play, and Freeze Frames – as tools for enquiry. With students either working individually, in pairs, or in small groups, open-ended questions will encourage deep and critical thinking where students can respond through writing, then discussing their responses with a partner or group members, and eventually with the class. These approaches will invite conversations for students to articulate their thoughts and feelings, share their perspectives, eventually making meaning and connections to the narrative.
