Programme Synopsis This workshop offers a dive into the most important aspect of learning storytelling; learning how to prepare a story for telling. The material for this workshop can either be age appropriate, easy to tell story texts or the studet n persponal experiences. The students’ will either be given an anthology of stories to chose from and each will choose one story to learn to tell. Or they will be given a number of story prompts that help them to recall an incident in their life that they will learn to retell. (We will work with the school to find the best approach for each class). The story learning process starts with a series of exercises that give the students a thorough grasp of the story's sequence, so that they have the confidence to begin to tell the story in their own words. Then there are exercises to help the students to create details and uncover the meanings/themes that they see in their chosen story. This helps them personalise the story and will help them deliver it more effectively. Through this time-tested, effective story learning method they will be able to develop their confidence in telling a story. LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the class the students will have: - learned a practical and effective method of learning any story for oral telling. - discovered methods for adding details to a story to make it uniquely their own. - gained confidence in practicing their story in front of a small audience.
