Programme Synopsis Community Batik is a highly engaging group activity that has been popular in mass gatherings around Singapore since its inception in 2009. It presented an opportunity for groups to apply the ‘Gotong Royong’ community spirit to produce a massive work of art collectively. The Covid-19 Pandemic forced us to innovate to piece together massive murals from remote online participation. We facilitated similar collaborative art projects in other art mediums. The concept is still the same, everybody contributes a bit of creative effort in the co-creation and we will piece it together for display. We now offer a variety of collaborative art to choose from: Community Batik Mini batik mural The standard community batik engagement is to co-create a 4-meter long batik painting over a 3-hours duration. Artists will wax design on the spot and the students will gather around the cloth to paints it collectively. For digital format or blended workshops, the materials is packed individually by project and distributed to students so they can participate in the co-creation remotely guided through step-by-step instruction and interaction with the artist instructor over the internet on Zoom. These individually created artworks are then collected and processed by the artist to piece together into collaborative art mural installation.
