Programme Synopsis (Physical Programme) A comprehensive talk exploring a new breed of musicians — DJs and electronic artistes — who are the future of music. They have dominated the airwaves of modern pop culture, creating music solely from a laptop and performing with the help of technology. In this talk, KoFlow explores the evolution of a “break” — where all the elements of a song (e.g., synth pads, bass lines, vocals), except for percussion, disappear — and its influence on the different genres of music we hear today. Students will learn about the bridge between computer music and traditional analogue turntables, with KoFlow creating remixes on the fly and showcasing various techniques in using the turntable. We aim to help students gain insight into the music that they listen to today and to explore their creativity through a music form that holds endless possibilities. (Digital Programme) Get a rare, exclusive look into the cool art of DJing from DJ KoFlow, Singapore’s premier DJ and turntablist, music producer and educator, and discover why DJs are a major force of creativity and widely regarded as the future of music. Learn how creativity can be unlocked by witnessing a DJ in action as he becomes an inspiring music whiz coaxing an eye-popping range of sounds from a deck comprising a laptop, mixer and turntables. The DJ will demonstrate those nifty, exciting tricks you’ve always wanted to know, such as mixing, scratching, juggling and sampling, and explain how DJing mixes music genres and has given birth to many of today’s popular genres such as electronic dance music, trap, drum and bass, and house.
