Programme Synopsis International storyteller and Singapore storytelling pioneer Sheila Wee and her team of gifted and experienced professional storytellers are proud to present a high-quality experiential storytelling workshop for lower primary pupils. The endorsed artists are all highly experienced storytellers, each with their unique repertoire of stories. They have between 17 and 25 years experience as professional storytellers and most of them began their careers as teachers and so are very comfortable in a school environment. This workshop begins with the telling of a folktale crafted by the storyteller to engage the pupils. The pupils will then be led on an exploration of that story and its telling through a number of engaging hands-on activities. By the end of the workshop the pupils will have engaged in a kaleidoscope of activities that will give them tools to prepare stories for oral telling and plan the writing of original stories. The activities in the workshop include: • A visualisation exercise to access sensory images from the story • An interview exercise to explore aspects of one of the story’s characters • A storymapping exercise • A storyboarding exercise • A collaborative group telling of the story ABOUT STORYWISE Storywise was founded and is run by Sheila Wee, a Singaporean storyteller who has been a professional storyteller since 1998. Because of her work to pioneer the revival of storytelling in Singapore, she has become known as Singapore’s Godmother of Storytelling. As well as running Storywise, Sheila is a Founding Director of the Federation of Asian Storytellers (FEAST). Sheila’s international work as a performer and workshop leader has taken her to Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, the UK and Vietnam.
