Programme Synopsis Where do we get ideas for stories? How do we string ingredients together to tell a story that captures our reader’s attention? This course provides practical stimuli to get students writing and thinking how the core elements of a story - setting, character and events - can interact with problems which, like yeast, cause the narrative to rise to make an appettising read. The programme is offered in a BLENDED format - a preview of 8 of the course can be viewed here: https://storystream.com.sg/writing-riveting-stories/ The course uses a variety of visual stimuli to trigger creative responses, generating random ingredients which the participants learn to structure and combine into a meaningful narrative sequence. The course combines plenty of hands-on activities, and instruction involves pre-recorded videos, live on-site sessions and complementary worksheets pdfs designed, for example. to enrich vocabulary and language choices. As a Singapore Literature Prizewinner (for poetry) a trained Audio Describer for the blind, and a storyteller with a strong ear for dialogue, Roger Jenkins has a flair for words. He communicates his pleasure in the written word and the craft of telling a story in such a way that his audience can clearly visualise the setting and empathise with its key character(s)
