Programme Synopsis

------------------------------------------- Check with us for digital options. This popular workshop uses a lively, hands-on approach to equipping students with basic storytelling skills. Students will discover the fun of telling stories. They will discover how to learn a story without resorting to memorisation and learn techniques to tap their imagination to make the story uniquely their own. The workshop will include opportunities for the students to listen to a skilled teller and for them to refine and gain confidence in their own telling skills. This workshop will be individually tailored according to the age and abilities of the students. • Why tell stories? • How to find stories that are suitable for telling. • Techniques for learning story structure. • Techniques for imagining a story through different sensory modes. • Performance tips. • Storytelling with props. • Storytelling practice. Asian Storytelling Network, Singapore’s first professional storytelling company, has a pool of skilled artiste educators who have been successfully engaging students and teachers in schools since 2002.
Objectives • To introduce students to the techniques of choosing, learning and telling stories. • To build the student’s confidence in their storytelling abilities. The learning outcome for pupils would include: • the enjoyment of stories and storytelling. • an understanding of storytelling techniques. • own storytelling style. • confidence in storytelling abilities. • knowledge and appreciation of oral culture and of folktales in particular. • ability to use different forms of imagination.
